Jennifer Cameron is the CEO of INVRS, a modern, social and collaborative investment research platform. Jennifer’s career started on Bay Street, but she’s also worked in startups, including one she cofounded which had a successful exit. Jen is also an accountant, a CFA, and the mother of twins.
What was your journey like to get where you are?
It was circuitous! I started on Bay Street over 25 years ago (Canada’s Wall Street equivalent), I worked in start-ups including one I helped co-found that had a $400M exit, I traveled around the world, and I got my CFA and my CPA after the age of 40. I’m also the mother of twins.
In a simpler phrase, what is your company exactly doing?
We help financial creators build a business. Right now, financial creators must do research their research, monetize, publish and market all in different places. Their process is very fragmented, which makes it inefficient and expensive. But the biggest problem is that they don’t have an ownership stake in the platforms they contribute so much to. On our platform, creators can earn equity ownership in the company they are helping to build.
What about Metaverse are you most excited for in the future?
The creator economy. I believe that people monetizing their passion is one of the highest expressions of the Metaverse.
Why should we be paying attention to the Metaverse?
I think the Metaverse is going to become its own economic state, with its own currency and its own laws. A lot of very interesting experiments may arise. For example, as the Metaverse evolves into statehood, who will govern? What if it is AI? What would be the outcome of an AI-governed state? Would it be superior to human governance? Would it be able to objectively enact laws for the greater good? In other words, would it be non-political? If the Metaverse does become its own state, does this become the first example of a global government? If the global government operates more efficiently than state governments, what happens to states? And this is just one chain of thought. The Metaverse has an array of fascinating possibilities.
