I am Freeman Smith, the founder of Nufactur, a manufacturing tech company. I have a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a master’s in software engineering from Harvard University. I am passionate about tech, automation, virtual reality, and its role in the industrial revolution currently happening in the manufacturing space.
What was your journey like to get where you are?
I worked for 6 years as a mechanical engineer focusing on industrial automation. As I learned more, I realized how important software and virtual reality would be to the future of manufacturing. I started pursuing software engineering and became passionate about the crossroads of technology and manufacturing. I believe there is so much untapped potential in this space and it is my goal to help unlock this potential.
In a simpler phrase, what is your company exactly doing?
We are a search engine for industrial components. You type in a part number and you can compare pricing and delivery time.
What about Metaverse are you most excited for in the future?
With the remote capabilities of modern factories, operation and maintenance will eventually be done in the Metaverse. If we can improve data acquisition and interconnectivity, and operate in a remote setting can oversee many factories in virtual reality.
Why should we be paying attention to the Metaverse?
A Metaverse is a tool for data visualization and analysis. For things to occur in a virtual universe, we must first have data about them. This means that the Metaverse will allow people to view real-time data, forecasting, predictive maintenance, and other tools in a robust and user-friendly virtual setting.
