What was your journey like to get where you are?
I got into Bitcoin towards the end of 2015. I was fascinated by the tech, so in 2015 I joined an online platform called 21, mostly to dabble more with the crypto space and familiarize myself with the different aspects of BTC trading. However, what I didn’t expect was the complete rabbit hole I will get into. I was seriously obsessed. Thankfully it worked out. Two years later, I got this opportunity to drive marketing at Gate.io, and since then, I have been heading the marketing function as a CMO. Gate.io is one of the oldest crypto exchanges globally, and we serve more than 3.5 million users across the globe.
In a simpler phrase, what is your company exactly doing?
Gate.io is your all-in-one platform for all things crypto. Do you want to spot trade? Futures trade? Mint and sell NFTs? Fund your crypto startup? You want it? We got it. It is an all-encompassing crypto ecosystem. What about Metaverse are you most excited for in the future?
The pandemic has made our lives more digital than ever. The wonderful thing about the digital landscape is that there are no restrictions on how we express ourselves via our online avatars. For example, I will probably not be walking around wearing a golden crown on my head in the real world. However, my avatar may do that online, and no one will ever bat an eyelid. That, in essence, is the power of the metaverse. Express who you really are in multiple digital realities. It combines multiple technologies into one – like the blockchain, AI, VR, AR, NFTs, etc. Imagine a virtual space where you enter a digital Walmart – add some items to your metaverse and get it physically delivered to your house – and then enter your digital office space to work with your colleagues who are located all over the world. It will be the Matrix, Ready Player One, and Johnny Quest all wrapped up in multiple ecosystems. It will change the way we interact with each other online.
Why should we be paying attention to the Metaverse?
We should be paying attention to it because that’s what the technology and our zeitgeist are evolving towards. Every new innovation like this gives us a new opportunity to do something great. Whether it be technological advancements, creating more jobs, and changing how humans interact with one another. On top of that, billions of dollars have already been invested in the metaverse. Behemoths like Facebook and Walmart have already incorporated elements of the metaverse. In Facebook’s case, they have changed they have rebranded to “Meta” to reflect their commitment to the metaverse. Moving forward, we will have multiple tech companies, big and small, creating different metaverse-related products. It is in everyone’s best interest to “hop on” the train as soon as possible.
