Alex McDougall is an experienced executive in all aspects of banking, fintech, capital markets, and M&A. Currently, Alex is CEO of Stablecorp, a Canadian company that achieved a global first by launching the first bank-issued Stablecoin along with pioneering the Stablecoin 2.0 model. In his role, Alex leads the company in all areas including strategic direction, ecosystem and partner expansion, development, compliance, and overall business growth.
What was your journey like to get where you are?
Alex has been through all roads of traditional finance- he started his career as an investment banker at the Bank of Montreal and led multiple projects and teams across BMO Capital Markets, including in Fintech, M&A, and Financial Institutions. As finance continues to grow in digitization, he wants to be on the cutting edge of it all.
In a simpler phrase, what is your company exactly doing?
Stablecorp is a leading Canadian fintech firm and strategic partner in the development and launch of VCAD, the country’s first Canadian dollar Digital Deposit Receipt. DDRs provide a highly secure, regulatory-friendly alternative to stablecoins, with VCAD being backed 1:1 by Canadian dollar deposits held by VersaBank.
What about Metaverse are you most excited for in the future?
Alex can’t wait to watch the adoption of the Metaverse grow and for it to become mainstream- keep in mind, it wasn’t too long ago that no one could describe how email worked!
