What was your journey like to get where you are?
A little over three years ago, two friends and I with years of gaming, design, and development experience got excited about investing in NFT in-game assets. At the beginning of 2021, we realized that there is much more to this idea, and the mission we shared evolved to co-creating Metaverse and promoting the play-to-earn reality. Little did we know that in a matter of weeks thousands of like-minded people would join us to truly shift the paradigm from pay-to-play to play-to-earn. Today, Metaguild is creating the infrastructure that can help millions of players make a living with gaming. More than that, our guild is a pioneer in land development in Metaverse.
In a simpler phrase, what is your company exactly doing?
Metaguild is a community-driven project with its core mission to co-create Metaverse and promote the play-to-earn reality. Metaguild was founded by a team of crypto enthusiasts, who saw the potential of NFT projects long before they became a buzzword. Based on DAO, the guild enables gamers to contribute growth and development of our decentralized community by influencing where Metaguild is going as a guild — and be paid for it.
What about Metaverse are you most excited for in the future?
The term Metaverse has lots of meanings. As we are a gaming guild, for us, it means a unique area where a blockchain-based gaming reality develops. Metaverse helps to achieve not only full immersion but also the creation of the gaming experience by players themselves. For example, each player can combine gameplays he loves, for example, create an avatar in the anime style and then use it in racing simulators. It is strongly connected with easy to cross-chain conception where anyone can transfer assets (and even experienced) from one game to another. Thereby every game (reality) has become connected to another, building the so-called Metaverse. Finally, in-game economies in Metaverse provide employment for thousands of people — and the number is going to increase in the future along with the rise of the number of people using the Internet (it was up by 316M by 2020). Everyone will be able to earn by playing, even though at the beginning of 2020 no one knew about the play-to-earn open economy, it’s a completely new reality.
Why should we be paying attention to the Metaverse?
Metaverse is more than a buzzword. For ordinary users, it is an opportunity to create things in the form of NFTs and then sell them on marketplaces. In other words, Metaverse opens up an open economy with its benefits — and nobody can control it thanks to decentralization. Global e-commerce sales jump to $876 billion at the beginning of 2021 and this trend is forecasted to grow. Brands have already followed NFT games and Metaverse to maximize profits as it has become another distribution channel with lower costs. Ease of doing business draws the attention of enterprises: smart contracts simplify automated payments to employees, and the process of expanding the business and testing hypotheses is also easier there. Nike and Adidas have land parcels in the game Sandbox and small and medium enterprises follow in their steps to be called early adopters.
